Who is responsible for a dead animal in Hamilton?
It depends on the ground it is lying on, not on the animal. Public ground is somebody else’s job and usually free. Private ground is the property owner’s, and that is the job this site books.

Why the last row says that. Ohio law puts the duty on the owner: under ORC 941.14, “the owner of premises that contain a dead animal” must dispose of it within a reasonable time. That section is not limited to livestock — ORC 941.01 defines an animal as any bird, reptile, amphibian, fish or mammal other than humans, so it reaches a deer or a raccoon the same way it reaches a cow.
The Butler County health district is sometimes suggested as a route for this. Its own nuisance and concern page lists the complaints it takes: food service, campsites, pools and spas, septic systems, garbage and mosquitoes. Dead animals are not among them.

What counts as private property here
- The yard, garden, side strip and fence line of a house you own or rent.
- A private driveway, parking pad or garage.
- Under a deck, porch, back step, shed or raised outbuilding.
- A crawl space, attic, basement or barn, where the animal can be reached.
- Commercial ground: a lot, a loading area, a yard behind a unit, a farm field.
- Private land with a dead deer on it, which is the heaviest version of this job.

Often city right-of-way even though you mow it. If it is on that strip or in the gutter, report it to the City before paying anyone.
It was hit on the road and died in your garden
Where it came to rest is what matters, not where it was struck. On your ground it is yours, and a road crew will not come onto private property for it.
You rent, and it is in the yard
Tell the landlord or the letting agent first. The duty in ORC 941.14 sits with the owner of the premises, and many tenancies make that explicit.
